Peter John Kay was born on the 2nd of July in 1973 at Bolton in Lancashire, England. He was born by a couple; Deirdre O’Neill (mother) and the late Michael Kay (father) who is an engineer. His mother who was of an Irish descendant and a staunch Roman Catholic brought Peter Kay up with the same faith after the death of his father.

He attended Saint Joseph RC High School and proceeded to the University of Liverpool where he studied Drama, Theatre studies, and English Literature. He later transferred to the Aldephi Campus School of media, music, and performance at the University of Salford. He also had an Honorary degree in Arts from the University of Salford in 2016 in commendation of his pivotal role in the Entertainment industry.

Career

Peter Kay had always enjoyed entertaining others and making people laugh right from a young age. He was part of his school product of “the Wizard of Oz”

After schooling, Peter Kay work in numerous places, working part-time at a warehouse, Bingo Hall, toilet-roll factory, Petrol station, and so on.

In 1996, he went auditioning for the North West Comedian of the Year Award, when he was still new in the industry with little experience. He was voted the best and won the award. After winning the audition, he started working as a part-time stand-up comedian. It’s through his comedy acts that he got his first project. He also won Channel 4’s contest titled “So You Think You Are Funny” in 1997.
