Police Dismisses SARS Officer Involved in Tiamiyu Kazeem Death

Police dismisses SARS officer involved in the death of footballer Tiamiyu Kazeem

The Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, fired the SARS agent involved in the death of football player Tiamiyu Kazeem.

Olaniyi Ogunsoro, an officer with the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, was fired for his role in the death of Remo Stars’ assistant captain, Tiamiyu Kazeem, who died on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

According to a press release from Remo Stars Football Club, Tiamiyu was picked up by SARS employees on the way home to train with a colleague. The SARS officials accused him of being an Internet fraudster (Yahoo boy).

Tiamiyu allegedly identified himself as a football player, as SARS agents took him to the office in Abeokuta and he was reportedly pushed from the SARS vehicle by the police. An oncoming vehicle hit and crushed him to death on the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.

A police statement initially said the footballer jumped out of the vehicle by himself in an attempt to escape and was crushed by an oncoming vehicle. However, Sanni Abubakar, a friend and teammate of Kazeem, who was also arrested by SARS officials, said SARS officials pushed Tiamiyu out of his Toyota Sienna vehicle before he was killed by an oncoming vehicle.

The father of the deceased, Fasasi, said that the deputy inspector general of police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, force headquarters, Ogunyonwon Peter, visited his family and promised to ensure that any police officer involved in Kaká’s death will be forced to face justice.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun also visited the grieving family and promised to ensure that justice is served and that it won’t be swept under the rug.
