The Nigerian Police has reportedly rescued a 14-year-old girl after successfully killing two notorious kidnappers in a gun battle.
The development has been confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the State Police Command Spokesman, SP Isah Gambo, who revealed that the victim Lantana Haruna, was kidnapped 18 days ago by the notorious gangs at Tashar Mai Alewa village, Danmusa Local Government Area in Katsina.
The police statement made available reveals that the two kidnappers identified as Gambo Balejo and Ali Dan Maishago were shot dead after a fierce battle in their hideout at Jigawar Sawai forest.
Meanwhile, 9jatoday had reported that some unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen had on Friday at 1 am launched an attack on Tawari, a community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving about 23 persons dead.
Claims from the locals asserted that the attackers in their hundreds invaded the community and began shooting sporadically and setting ablaze residential houses, places of worship. They also razed down a clinic in the area which was reportedly built by missionaries during colonial rule, burnt the official vehicle of the traditional ruler of the area, the Aguma of Tawari, Alhaji Idris Tawari, among other property.
The terrible attack also claimed the life of Ibrahim Simbabi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in the Tawari ward. Also in the killing is the Chief Imam of the village, Mallam Zakari Salihu.
