- Okada Ban SAGA in Lagos – Police Arrest Suspects
According to a report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday evening, the Lagos State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, disclosed that ist has nabbed no less than 34 suspects and also seized about 86 motorcycles from Okada riders while reacting to riot that occurred at Aboru area of Iyana Ipaja.
9jatoday understands that the command had paraded the 34 suspects following reports that the Okada riders allegedly attacked some of its personnel at Iyana Ipaja in Lagos, on Wednesday.
Elkana in his statement reported that “The Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences with some police officers carried out enforcement on restrictions of motorcycles and tricycles at Aboru area.
“The riders of the impounded motorcycles and thugs in large number advanced and attacked police officers on duty at Iyana Ipana roundabout, Alaguntan junction and Aboru junction.
“One Insp. Salifu Umar was injured by the hoodlums and was rushed to hospital where he is responding to treatment,” he said.
He added that one Lagos State Transport Management Agency vehicle and two other Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps patrol bicycles were razed down by the hoodlums.
He said, “The windscreen of a police patrol vehicle was also damaged. Reinforcement was sent to the affected areas by the Command Headquarters and the situation was brought under control.”
“the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, condemned the attack on police officers carrying out their lawful duties” he added.
He further reveals that the state Commissioner has vowed that the perpetrators of the acts would face the full weight of the law and that suspects would be charged to court.
Meanwhile, 9jatoday had reported that the clash between Okada riders and police officers in Lagos state has caused a stray bullet to hit a schoolgirl who was returning from school during a clash between the Police officers and the Okada riders at Iyana Ipaja, a popular location in the state.
In the now-viral video shared online, a schoolgirl was spotted clad in her school uniform lifeless on the side of the road while murmuring and shouts erupts in the background.
The recent Okada ban in Lagos State by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has been causing chaos among Nigerian Policemen and the motorcyclist who has been on the protest since the new law was introduced in the state.
