1. Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom is the largest oil-producing state in Nigeria, over 30% of Nigeria’s daily crude oil is gotten from Akwa Ibom and the state is one of the most developed states in Nigeria as we speak.

Akwa Ibom State was founded on 23rd, September 1987 and is located in the south-south region of Nigeria and categorized as part of the Niger Delta states.

2. Delta State

Delta state is also one of the largest oil-producing states in Nigeria, a Nigerian state which is located in the South-Southern geo-political zone of Nigeria with a population of 4,112,445, and it is rated as the second-largest oil producer in Nigeria.

3. Rivers State

Rivers state was the largest oil-producing state in Nigeria before the spot got taken over by Akwa Ibom, now Rivers state is the third-biggest oil producer in Nigeria.

Rivers state gives Nigeria a daily fraction of 21% of crude oil and it has been the biggest refiner of crude oil, Rivers state is also one of the richest states in Nigeria.

Having Port Harcourt as the first capital, the wealth of the state still reflects in almost all the cities in Rivers state.

4. Bayelsa State

Bayelsa state is also one of the big wigs when it comes to oil production and it is located in the South-Southern region of the country with a population of 1,704,515 inhabitants.

Bayelsa state accounts for over 18% of the nation’s daily crude oil and is one of the first sites for oil exploration in Nigeria.

The capital city of Bayelsa in Yenagoa and the state is faced with oil pollution which has led to a different fracas between the indigen and the government because their main profession is fishing but this has been threatened with oil spillage.

5. Ondo State

Ondo State is also one of the oil-producing states in Nigeria though located in the South-Western part of the country.

Ondo state was founded in 1976 and its capital city is Akure which is one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria, the state is a Yoruba-speaking state and is rich in crude oil, the state accounts for up to 3.8% of crude oil daily.

With over a 2.5million inhabitants in it, the state is also rich in bitumen and is one of the biggest suppliers of tar and bitumen in the country.

6. Edo State

Don’t get surprised, Edo state is also one of the states that produce oil in Nigeria, even though they contribute a small fraction of crude oil, the state is contributing its own quota to the economy of the country.

Edo state accounts for 2% of crude oil produced in Nigeria and its capital city is Benin with a population of 3.5 million inhabitants according to census 2006.

7. Imo State

Imo State is also an oil-producing state even though it has a little quota but it is the first South-Eastern state on our list of oil-producing states in Nigeria.

Imo state doesn’t only provide crude oil, they have other natural resources like clay, zinc, lead, and limestone.

The state contributes around 1% of crude oil daily and this made it one of the oil-producing states in the eastern region of the country.

8. Abia State

Abia state quota is the lowest out of the oil-producing states in Nigeria accounting for an estimate of 0.68% of Nigeria’s daily crude oil.

Abia state capital is Umuahia and its economic city is the popular Aba which is the commercial city of the state known for local production of textiles, shoes, and so on.
