Ganduje Fires Commissioner For ‘Unguarded Utterances’ About Kyari

The governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, waived the appointment of the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Mu’azu Magaji with immediate effect.

According to a statement signed by Information Commissioner Malam Muhammad Garba, the Commissioner was removed after his unprotected statements against the person of Malam Abba Kyari’s late Chief of Staff.

He said that as a civil servant, the commissioner should have respect for the position, refraining from any act that could make him discredited.

“The action of a public servant, personal or not, reflects back to the government and, therefore, the Ganduje government would not tolerate people in official functions involved in personal revenge or not,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the state government praised Kyari, emphasizing that he led a life worthy of imitation by serving his country in the best possible way.

News that Kyari had tested positive for COVID-19 was first released on March 24, about 10 days after he returned from a trip to Germany during which he met with Siemens employees in Munich on Nigeria’s electricity expansion.

He himself confirmed the news in a statement on March 29, the same day that President Buhari made his first national broadcast on the pandemic and announced a two-week lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In the statement, Kyari revealed that he would be transferred from FCT to Lagos for treatment and expressed the hope that he would recover and return to work soon.

But almost a month later, he lost the battle with the disease, as aides to the president announced that he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.
