The strike action scheduled for today (Monday) by the labour unions, NLC and TUC has been suspended after a meeting between the Labour leaders and the federal government.

This was contained in a five page communique read by the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige. The meeting between both parties lasted from sunday till the early hours of Monday morning.

After much deliberations, the hike in electricity will be suspended for two weeks. A committee headed by Dr Ngige has also been set up to look into what the minister described as conflicting field reports justifying the hike in electricity tariff.

Speaking on the price of petrol, the Minister of labour said all parties agreed on the need for expanding the local refining capacity of the nation to reduce the overdependence on the importation of petroleum products.

He added that the new price remains but the FG will do more to improve local refineries.
