JUST IN: Vaccine for Treatment of Coronavirus Ready Soon -Iwu

The drug to treat the dreaded coronavirus will be ready soon if the vaccine trial is complete.

The guarantee was given by the President of the Imo State Task Force at COVID-19, Prof. Maurice Iwu in Owerri on Wednesday.

Professor of Pharmacognosy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), presented a patented herbal treatment for COVID-19 to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, which is now being tested in the United States.

While informing journalists in Owerri shortly after Seplat Petroleum and Waltersmith Oil Ltd donated COVID-19 preventive material to the state government, Professor Iwu revealed that there is a positive sign that it will soon be ready.

“The work on the drug we are developing is still ongoing. We are encouraged by the result we are getting. We are receiving very positive signals. ”

He further disclosed “fortunately the drug is safe. It is a drug already in use. We are redirecting you to that specific purpose. So, when we finish the study and the test we are doing, I think the drug will get in line very soon. ”

More importantly, he added: “if the pandemic increases, NAFDAC will know what to do, as they did in the US to accelerate the use of chloroquine.

“If we need to, NAFDAC will know what to do. At the moment, the product is in human use, what we are doing is redirecting it to this particular event, ”he said.

He said the state government is doing everything humanly possible to prevent the virus from entering the state.

“We have a vertical integration with the Federal Government, whereby our health ministry works assiduously with the National Center for Disease Control. We have an equipment center ready and we set up isolation centers.”

According to him, “there is no confirmed incident in the state, but that does not mean that the fear is not there”.
