Lagos state government has said it will ask religious leaders to stop church service on Sunday and Mosques (Juma’at) on Friday.

Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso stated this on Wednesday in a briefing.

He said that religious leaders will be advised to shut down services in the public interest.

He said this a few hours after Lagos registered its seventh coronavirus case.

“We all know that the Federal Government has asked the National Youth Service Corps to close orientation camps Nationwide; yesterday (Tuesday) the Commissioner for Internal Affairs said there will be a meeting with religious leaders today (Wednesday).

“It will be suggested that they stop Friday and Sunday services – wherever we have large meetings.

“Going into the new development, I am sure that they will be advised to close the services in the interest of the public and all of us. I’m sure they will comply, ”said Omotosho.
