Do Not Hike Prices Of Goods Over Coronavirus – FG Tells Traders

The Nigerian government has appealed to traders and service providers not to increase the prices for goods and merchandise as a result of the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) in the country.

The President of the Presidential Task Force at COVID-19 and the Secretary of the Federation Government (SGF), Chief Mustapha, made the appeal on Friday.

“To Nigerian traders, businessmen and women, we call for resistance to the desire to raise prices for goods and merchandise during this period, as our compassionate nature must prevail.

“This is the best time to be considerate and empathetic towards Nigerians,” said Mustapha in an interview in Abuja.

He revealed that the task force has advanced in mobilizing resources to reinforce its preparedness and other implementation measures to facilitate the effect of the coronavirus on citizens.

The SGF added that the team received positive reports that there was a high level of compliance with the lockdown orders in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja.

According to him, the coronavirus remains a potential danger to all of humanity and threatens Nigeria’s economy and national security.

Mustapha, therefore, urged the people to play their part in the national response very seriously, as the Federal Government ensures measures to contain the spread of the disease.

He also asked the country’s law enforcement agencies to use tact and caution in the process of imposing the lockdown, even in the face of provocation.
