The Federal Government initiated the disbursement of N20,000 in conditional cash to indigent (poor) families at the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This is part of the federal government’s efforts to help reduce the effect of President Muhammadu’s lockdown order following the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadia Umar-Farouk, said on Wednesday, when starting the disbursement that, due to the scourge of COVID-19, the federal government will distribute N20,000 per person for the next four months, starting from March 2020.
She explained that the president, during his broadcast last week, ordered the conditional transfer of money to be made before two months.
“We target the immediate transfer of income to the poorest and most vulnerable families in the country,” she said.
“Because of this COVID-19, vulnerable groups need to expand, because we know that there are people who live on a daily wage, so let’s also look at these groups to see how we can get this food relief intervention to them in this period. ”
