The Federal Government suspended work at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, due to the growing cases of coronavirus in the country.

Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika stated this on Tuesday during a working visit to check the level of work done.

According to him, the Easter deadline initially foreseen for the completion of the reconstruction work in progress at the airport may be more fulfilled.

Sirika noted that the suspension became necessary after workers complained that they could no longer comfortably carry out their tasks in the face of the pandemic by exposing themselves to the virus.

In a meeting attended by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), representative of the state government and the Southeast Governors Forum, the minister noted that the work has reached more than 93% completion, will resume when the war against the pandemic that has been started is won.
