Edo Discharges Five COVID-19 Patients

The Edo state government said on Friday that five of its confirmed cases of COVID-19 were discharged after having tested negative twice for the virus.

Governor Godwin Obaseki announced the news in a tweet,

“I am pleased to announce that 5 of the confirmed cases on #EdoState have now been negative twice for # Covid_19,” he said.

“They were discharged. This reinforces our determination to defeat this common enemy, as we launch more measures to verify the expansion of # Covid_19. ”

As of April 16, Edo had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control.

On Thursday, the state government announced a ban on street commerce as part of measures to restrict movement and reinforce social distance across the state.

Governor Obaseki also revealed plans to speed up testing for the virus in the state.

“We want to track up to 500,000 citizens in Edo in the coming weeks, and I am pleased to report that we now have two additional testing facilities in the city of Benin, where we plan to test up to 5,000 citizens,” said the governor in his Easter message.
