‘Ekiti 3rd COVID-19 Patient Responding to Treatment’

The 29-year-old pregnant woman Community Health Worker, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, is gradually stabilizing and responding to treatment at the Ekiti isolation center.

Ekiti’s health commissioner, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said this on Monday in Ado-Ekiti while addressing journalists about the state of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Governor Kayode Fayemi, confirming the case on Saturday, said the woman sneaked in from Lagos State and went into a coma after being operated on in a private clinic during labor.

But Yaya-Kolade said the patient is gradually emerging from a coma and responding positively to treatment.

“News of the third case was released by Mr. Governor on Saturday. She entered Coma before being referred to a teaching hospital. I want to tell you that she is getting better.

“As of now, she is stabilizing and responding to treatment.”

Yaya-Kolade said that about 73 people who had contact with the patient were identified through aggressive contact tracking.

“Of the 73, we tracked 70 of them and they are being monitored. We advise you to stay in isolation for 14 days while secondary contacts are being tracked with the help of our district surveillance officers.

“Some of the suspects who did not have homes for self-isolation were being accommodated by the government.”

The Commissioner added that 42 blood samples were collected at the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and 39 were taken without confirmed results to date.
