BREAKING: Enugu Commissioner for Health Dies

Amid the panic of COVID -19 in the country, Enugu State Commissioner for Health Professor Anthony Ugochukwu is dead.

The renowned surgeon is said to have died on Friday night at a major private hospital, Memphys Hospital Enugu.

The development was confirmed by the member of the House representing his constituency, the Oji River state constituency at the Enugu Assembly House. Jeff Mbah.

Mbah described the late surgeon as a genius, a technocrat; “He is a great loss for the state of Enugu and Nigeria.

“We are talking about a renowned professor of surgeon who has a lot to offer to change the health sector. It is a terrible blow.

He revealed that the commissioner had just returned from the United States and was doing well before the sudden relapse.

Professor Anthony Ugochukwu has been ill since his days as Provost College of Medicine.

He later recovered and completed his work at the College.

However, shortly after being appointed commissioner last year, the disease returned, this time more serious.

All this with the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, the commissioner was out of circulation.

His duties were being performed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi.
