FG Bans FSARS, Other Police Tactical Squads From Routine Patrol

Information reaching 9ja news says that FSARS and Other police tactical squads have been banned from its routine patrol. This was made known in a series of tweet on the official handle of the Nigerian Government.

“All FSARS, STS, IRT & other Tactical @PoliceNG Squads operating at Federal, Zonal & Command levels are hereby BANNED from carrying out routine patrols & other conventional low-risk duties – stop & search duties, checkpoints, roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT”.

This is coming after many Nigerians took to twitter to trend the harsh tag #ENDSARS following the incessant deaths and torture of Nigerians in the hands of the unit(SARS).

The Federal Government says that “Henceforth, no @PoliceNG personnel is authorized to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti.

“All Police Force personnel must always appear in their police uniforms or approved tactical gear.

“All Tactical Squads must also desist from the invasion of the privacy of citizens particularly through indiscriminate and unauthorized search of mobile phones, laptops and other smart devices.

“Henceforth,the Commissioner of Police in charge of FSARS, Commissioners of Police in charge of State/FCT Commands as well as their supervisory Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, will be held liable for any @PoliceNG misconduct within their Area of Responsibility (AOR)”.

The FG also says that the authorites of the NPF should set up monitoring activities to check the activities of its officers.

“The @PoliceNG authorities will step up monitoring of all activities of Tactical Squads (FSARS etc) and other police officers, nationwide, and ensure the prompt arrest, investigation and prosecution of all officers who violate these directives and other Force regulations.

“The @PoliceNG_CRU will also continue to be available to receive and investigate complaints against Police Officers, for appropriate action. Citizens are encouraged to make available full details of incidents to the Unit, using any of their contact details”
