Gov. Zulum Declares 14 Days Lockdown After 3 Cases Of COVID-19

Borno State will as from Wednesday, April 22 commence a fourteen-days lockdown following new record of Coronavirus disease in the state.

The announcement was made in a recent broadcast by the state governor, Umar Zulum, noting that a 14-day lockdown will kick start in the state as from 10:30 pm on Wednesday, 22nd of April, 2020.

Zulum urged residents to abide by the order as public gatherings, offices and business operations in the state would be put on hold to avoid the spread on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The governor said, “In the exercise of the powers conferred on me, I have signed an executive order, declaring COVID-19 a dangerous disease. For this, I am hereby directing a lockdown that will require cessation of all movements in Borno State for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 10:30 pm on Wednesday, 22nd of April, 2020. All citizens in Borno State are to stay in their homes.”

“This means all public gatherings are restricted while offices and businesses in Borno State are to be fully closed during this period. Security and intelligence agencies have been briefed for enforcement.”

According to Zulum, the government will during the lockdown make traces of affected persons and ensure that they are isolated.

9jatoday understands that the order was coming following the announcement of thirty-eight new cases of COVID-19 by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night.
