A nominee by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has on Tuesday been shunned by the state House of Assembly over his failure to appear before the house for proper documentation.
9jatoday understands that Governor Bello had presented his candidate, Alhaji Ali Lawal Jiya to the Kogi State House of Assembly, to serve as a member of the State Independent Electoral Commission, KOSIEC.
However, on Tuesday (today), the Assembly turned down Jiya’s nomination for failing to make himself available for screening.
It was reported that the nominee had presented his Curriculum Vitae to the House of Assembly, but that his presence missed for the screening resulted to his rejection.
The Assembly had rejected Jiya after a member representing Igalamela/Odolu constituency, Barr. Cosmas Atabor suggests that ‘His nomination be discountenanced and disqualified’, and not attended to for the same nomination again.”
A motion which was seconded by Moses Edoko of Dekina/Biraidu Constituency and supported by Hon. Enema Paul and the Speaker, sitting as Chairman, Committee of the whole ruled in that regard.
However, seven other members whose names were forwarded alongside Jiya’s name by the state governor, Yahaya Bello were immediately screened and cleared after they were asked to “Take a Bow And Go” as their usual system.
9jatoday learned that the seven members screened will commence work immediately after their swearing-in which was said to be scheduled for Wednesday, March 4.
The names of the seven screened members for the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) are:
