Economically speaking, Africa is the most disadvantaged continent on the planet. Therefore, the 25 poorest countries in Africa do not come as a surprise, the African continent has nine out of the ten poorest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita.

According to data provided by the International Monetary Fund this year 2021, Burundi is the poorest country in Africa with a GDP per capita of just $267 per year.

Mind you, Burundi is not the only African country with devastating numbers; up to 22 African countries have a GDP per capita of less than a thousand dollars.
