Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered the closure of markets, stores in the state as of Thursday.
According to him, markets that sell essential commodities, such as medical equipment, water and food, are exempt.
The governor at a news conference on Tuesday said: “It is not a total blockade, we still want people in essential services to carry out their normal activities.
“We are trying to decentralize the markets in Lagos. That’s why we want to use some of our closed schools as markets, so that people can buy food and medicine without going a long way.
“Only when you’re alive can you talk about economics and finance.”
