Legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright says the English team should do everything in their power to ensure that teen star Bukayo Saka plays for England’s national team and not for Nigeria.
Saka has emerged as one of the stars of the English Premier League this season, with his performance at Arsenal, despite playing from an unknown position as a left-back, as opposed to his main wing role.
He has played for England at different youth levels but has not yet played for the national team, which qualifies him to move to Nigeria. His form has already alerted the powers of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
However, Wright is looking forward to seeing the 18-year-old move to the English team’s first team before Nigeria enters his service, as he strongly believes that Saka has what it takes to make a claim on the English senior national team.
”There are several reasons why players are called up for the senior national team and one of them is the present form of the player, Bukayo Saka undoubtedly placed himself in the frame of a call for the English team. There are players ahead of him at the moment, but he deserves a look, ”said Wright.
“Without a doubt, it will hurt a lot if he plays for Nigeria because he looks like a possible candidate who has progressed brilliantly in the ranks. It won’t be right if he plays for England, not Nigeria. He is a potential that will help the English team now and in the future ”.
