COVID-19: Jigawa Receives 524 Returnee Almajiris

Following the recent move by Kano State government which sends packing all young Islamic students and street beggars popularly known as ‘Almajiris’, reports reaching 9jatoday at this time confirm that Jigawa receives 524 of the deported Almajiris.

This online news platform understands that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State had deported Almajiri children from the state due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and to avoid further spread.

According to the Kano State government, it will be deporting over 1595 Almajiris to their various states as part of its precautionary measure in combating the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar while welcoming the children in the state stated that they will all have to be thoroughly checked medically before releasing them to their relatives.

He said, “We would examine their health condition and those who are healthy would be sent back to their local government and those who have health challenges would be isolated for two weeks.

Badaru added, “They would also be provided with beds and food until they are declared safe to mingle with other people in the society.”

Badaru, however, noted that the state at this point of time has no intention of sending away non-indigene Almajiris to their home states, adding that it would only result in the spread of the deadly virus.

He stated further that the good relationship between the state and Kano State where the Aljamiris were been deported from still remain intact.
