COVID-19: Kano to Repatriate 251,893 Almajiris

Concerned by the alarming increase in COVID-19 in Kano, the state government identified more than 251,893 almajiris for eventual evacuation and repatriation in its various states.

Almajiris were fished in eight metropolitan areas of the local government, where they are largely concentrated in the state.

In presenting reports from different committees created by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic, the State Commissioner for Local Governments, Murtala Sule Garo, said that of the identified numbers of Almajiris 79,411 are indigenous to the state, while 178,472 are not indigenous.

The government also warned that they would not hesitate to deal decisively with someone found spreading unverified information, pointing out that the issue in question was that of life and death.

The state’s deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna, expressed dismay as to why some people in the state were found intentionally trying to create panic among citizens by selling fake news.

Gawuna said: “One of the Media Houses just reported that Kano people are going to the State Isolation Center in Kwanar Dawaki to be tested, while the same media reported that the Committee Chair, a renowned personal doctor with a positive test , which were all lies “.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said Kano has taken three major steps to combat the pandemic, which includes proactive, preventive and isolation.

Ganduje explained that, with the lkdown of the state, it will avail health by blocking the easy contact tracking of workers to identify those who were most infected for testing, in addition to being positive.
