A 20-year-old man, Uchechi Eze allegedly beheaded his 4-year-old nephew with an ax in the village of Ugamma, Obosi in the local government area of Idemili in southern Anambra.
The suspect, a native of the local government area of Ezza, from Ebonyi, but resides in the village of Ugamma, Obosi, reportedly fled after discovering the victim, a Chiemere Ezekiel was dead.
9jatoday concluded that the suspect was later arrested in a criminal hideout, where he was smoking a suspected Indian hemp substance.
Police spokesman Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was arrested.
He said police commissioner John Abang ordered the case to be transferred to the criminal investigation department (CID) for a discreet investigation.
He said: “It should be remembered that, on 3/16/2020, around 10 pm, an Uchechi Eze ‘m’ , 20 years of Ezza LGA from Ebonyi State, but resides in the village of Ugamma, Obosi used Ax and supposedly beheaded his nephew. Chiemere Ezekiel ‘m’, age 4 in the village of Ugamma, Obosi in Idemili, LGA south of the state of Anambra.
“The victim died on the spot and the suspect escaped to an unknown destination.
“Police officers linked to the Obosi Division visited the scene and took the victim to Obosi hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor and his corpse deposited in the morgue of St. Edward for an autopsy, while the intense hunt for the suspect intensified.
“After the intelligence report, police detectives linked to the Obosi division, in conjunction with the Vigilante group in the area, arrested the culprit for a criminal substance marijuana suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
“Suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and the exhibit he used in perpetrating the dastardly act was also recovered in his possession.”
