Ministers Let Go 50% Of Their March Salaries To Tackle Coronavirus
Ministers in the Federal Executive Council have agreed to let go of 50% of their March 2020 earnings to fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).
9jatoday has been informed that Ministers in the Federal Executive Council have agreed to let go of 50% of their March 2020 earnings to boost in the fight against dreadful Coronavirus (COVID-19) troubling the country at the moment.
The report which was disclosed in a statement on Saturday, March 28 in Abuja, confirms that 43 Ministers donates part of their salary in the above percentage to help the Federal Government of Nigeria to combat the global pandemic.
Speaking about the development, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, quoted the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, who is in charge of supervising the donation, as saying it was a gesture of solidarity and support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the disease.
According to Lai Mohammed, Gbemi said, ”This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another. This will facilitate an early resolution of the problem.”
The Ministers, following their contribution, applauds President Muhammadu Buhari for measures he is taking to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, 9jatoday had reported earlier that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, announced a donation of N50 million to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Biafra land.
Making the announcement on Friday in an audio broadcast made available to 9jatoday, the IPOB leader said the contingency fund was from the IPOB coffers.
