NSCDC Penetrates Ogun Riverine Areas to Enforce Lockdown

The Ogun Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) said on Saturday it had penetrated the riverside areas of the state, to ensure full compliance with the lockdown order by the president and state governor to verify the spread of the Coronavirus.

The command’s public relations officer, Dyke Ogbonnaya, said this in a statement released in Abeokuta.

Ogbonnaya said the NSCDC maintained constant vigilance around riverside areas that have always been considered difficult to access.

He explained that the body had to travel and access the areas via canoes.

“All major river border areas have been strategically managed since the blockade began on Friday by the body to prevent possible attempts to cross these routes to other parts of the state.

“No less than 45 people were employed on the river routes, including Akere in the local government area of Ipokia and Makun-Omi in the Efire community in the local government area of Ogun – Waterside.

“Meanwhile, our land borders across the state are also being closely monitored by a task force team comprised of the NSCDC, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS) and, in situations of emergency, the Nigerian Army”, he said.

PRO added that the NSCDC commander in Ogun, Hammed Abidunrin and the heads of other state security agencies continued to move to ensure compliance with the directive.

He said Abodunrin had instructed NSCDC staff “to keep an eye on all critical assets of the federal and Ogun governments as they continued to apply the directive”.
