Armed Forces Destroy ISWAP Camp At Tumbun Fulani In Borno

The Nigerian Armed Forces, through the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole and Artillery Batteries of Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), destroyed a camp of the Islamic State of West African (ISWAP) in Tumbun Fulani, the shores of Lake Chad, in the north of Borno.

This was revealed in a statement by the Acting Director of Defense Media Operations, Defense Headquarters, Brigadier-General Benard Onyeuko.

According to the declaration, this was achieved in a combined air and artillery bombing, carried out on April 3, 2020, as part of the MNJTF’s coordinated joint offensive to evict and completely free Lake Chad’s Islands (Tumbuns) from the presence of terrorists and Activities.

The statement further explains that the operation was carried out after reliable intelligence reports, indicating that the ISWAP terrorists, with their structures hidden under the dense vegetation of the area, used the settlement as a base to plan and launch attacks.

Consequently, the joint interdiction mission was launched with an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) coordinating the artillery and air fire barrage towards designated targets in the settlement, destroying and neutralizing them some of the ISWAP fighters in the process.

In a related development, the Air Task Force says it has continued to provide air transport support to troops from participating MNJTF national contingents, along with their logistics.
