FG Approves Use Of Stadiums, NYSC Camps As Isolation Centers

The federal government has approved the use of four stadiums in the country as isolation centers in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

These include the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos; Liberty Stadium Ibadan; M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abuja and Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

In addition, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country would be used as isolation centers.

This was released on Friday by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, in a tweet on his official fist.

“Mr. President approved the Ministry of Youth and Sports to open and make the stadiums in Surulere Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja and Kaduna available, as well as our NYSC camps across the country for use as isolation centers as needed.

“We are in contact with the relevant authorities,” tweeted Dare.

The federal government previously suspended sports activities at stadiums across the country and ordered the immediate closure of NYSC camps across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Sports Minister, however, on Friday said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the reopening of the camps as COVID-19 isolation centers.

He also notes that the identification and fumigation of several sports halls in the stadiums will begin shortly.

Dare urge young Nigerians to be at the “forefront of disseminating timely and accurate information via social media”.
