Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar advised President Muhammadu Buhari to take decisive action against the coronavirus in Nigeria.
The deadly widely spreading virus that broke out in Wuhan China was confirmed in Lagos hours ago after an Italian traveled to the country for a business meeting.
Advising the president on the virus, Atiku said that the same tactics used during the Ebola virus in Nigeria should be implemented.
“We must summon our experience with the Wild Ebola virus, of which we were the first nation in the world to defeat this scourge in 2014. How did Nigeria do this? We achieved this by showing an unprecedented unity.
“The federal government of the time worked closely with the state governments of Lagos and Rivers. There was complete unity, solidarity and unity of purpose, which created an atmosphere that defeated that deadly infestation ”, he observed.
Atiku also further pointed out that any tendency to start negotiating blame must be stopped.
“We recently closed our borders as an act against economic sabotage from neighbouring countries. Perhaps now is the time to also temporarily halt flights to and from any nation with this scourge prevalent.
“The candidate for the presidency of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections also defended the early detection facilities at our airports.
“Above all, Nigeria should not panic. Whether in government or at individual levels. We have once defeated Ebola before and we can defeat this current situation.
“This crisis is an opportunity to show that we are Nigerians in the first place and that we have no country other than our beloved homeland, that we must work together to maintain health and safety,” added the former vice president.
