9jatoday has been informed that some unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits has abducted a Muslim Cleric and other in Niger State.
The reported which was monitored by 9jatoday on The Nation reveals that unidentified gunmen stormed a few communities in Borgu local government area of Niger state, and abducted an Islamic Cleric who serves in the Emir of Borgu Palace Mosque, alongside 19 others.
It was reported that the bandits had stormed the community with guns, and other deadly weapons, and engaged in a horror operation that reportedly lasted for hours, leaving one dead while others suffers injuries.
According to The Nation, some of the villagers were attacked by the bandits while they were on their return from the market at about 5.30 pm on Saturday, February 1.
Following the attack, the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Mohammed Haliru Dantoro has reportedly called for an emergency meeting with all security chiefs in the local government to discuss and take necessary steps to secure the release of the those abducted.
9jatoday learned also the bandits has demanded N20m ransom to release the Imam only.
However, as at the time this report was given, there is no statement yet received from the state police command.
