The Benue state government has ordered all schools to close from Friday onward, as part of measures to protect the state from the coronavirus pandemic.
Journalists after the State Executive Council meeting today, Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, said that all schools in the state were instructed to complete exams before or on March 27 and continue the holiday.
The Commissioner urged schools to ensure that physical contact is restricted before exams end.
He said the decision to close schools before the end of the current academic term had become necessary as part of measures to prevent an outbreak of the disease in the state.
Professor Ityavyar expressed the Ortom government’s commitment to safeguard the future of the Benue child.
Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Sunday Ongbabor, said Benue had established an isolation center at the University Hospital at Makurdi State University.
He said that surveillance against coronavirus was intensified and advised people to avoid shaking hands and observe proper hygiene, such as washing hands frequently with soap.
