Lagos Health Commissioner Professor Akin Abayomi has just confirmed four new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in Lagos,
With that, there are now 12 cases in the country.
The Health Commissioner confirmed the new cases at a news conference on Thursday.
Professor Abayomi explained that 19 people were tested on Wednesday, four of the cases tested positive and were isolated for treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.
He said the first of four new cases that tested positive for the disease was a woman who had contact with the woman who came from the UK a few days ago and who was positive.
According to him, the second new case was a woman who returned from France on March 14 on a Turkish airline TK 1830.
The third case, he said, was a Nigerian man in his fifties who had not traveled anywhere, but was tested positive for the disease.
Abayomi said the fourth new case was a Nigerian man who arrived in the country on March 13 from Frankfurt to Lagos on the Lufthansa airline, flight number LH568.
The commissioner, however, said that more tests are still being carried out, adding that “we have a combination of imported cases and local transmission. The Lagos State Executive meets in the next stage of social distance.
“The best way to decrease the rate is to stop the virus moving from person to person,” he said.
He called on people on both flights to isolate themselves and reach out to the government.
“We are currently following more than 1,300 people at the moment to find information about their health status and the number is increasing.”
This is just a day after the Federal Ministry of Health confirmed five new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).
