Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been closed until further notice.
A statement from the University’s public relations director, Abiodun Olarewaju, on Friday said the closure was in line with federal government guidelines.
The FG had ordered on Thursday that all higher education institutions and schools in the unit be closed in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
“All students at the university were instructed to take a break, and those residing in the university’s residences were asked to vacate their hostels and return home.
“Thus, students are expected to leave their hostels and campus as of Monday, March 23, 2020, at the latest by 5:00pm.
“The parents and guardians of our students are advised to ensure that their children and wards fully comply with the request,” added the statement.
The vice-chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, also ordered “the suspension of all local, national and international conferences, seminars or workshops, scheduled to be held at the University, until further notice”.
