President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with bereaved families and farmers affected by the flood in Kebbi state. While also promising to work closely with the state government in order to bring relief to those affected by the flood in the state.
The President gave this assurance on his official twitter handle on sunday. He noted that kebbi state “is the focal point of our policy to produce rice locally as part of the administration’s commitment to agricultural revival”.
Buhari noted that the flooding disaster was a bad news especially at this time when farmers were looking forward to a bumper harvest.
“This bad news couldn’t have come at a worse time for our farmers and other Nigerians who looked forward to a bumper harvest this year in order to reduce the current astronomical rise in the costs of food items in the markets”.
The President added that this disaster was “a major setback to our efforts to boost local rice production as part of measures to end importation”.
The flood has led not only loss of lives but also to destruction of thousands of hectares of farmland in the Kebbi state.
