Governor Nyesom Wike of River State has on Friday, February 28 described Nigeria as an unfortunate nation as he berates the electoral system of Nigeria noting that the country despite that cannot conduct free and fair, credible elections.
Wike in his submission added that Nigeria despite several years of practising democracy can still not carry out a successful free and fair election.
9jatoday learned that Governor Wike made this statement at the States Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday. A meeting which was said to be a solidarity visit by the leaders and people of Okrika and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas.
“It is unfortunate that up till now, we cannot conduct free and fair elections in Nigeria,” said Wike.
“It is unfortunate that the giant of Africa lacks the capacity to conduct credible elections.”
He added, “At all times, continue to defend and protect the Rivers mandate.”
Speaking further, Wike said that the state government has spared the sum of N100 million to be used for the empowerment Programme for the courageous women of Wakirike Ethnic Nationality.
Giving the breakdown, Governor Wike noted that N50million is meant to be for Okrika LGA and N50million for Ogu/Bolo LGA.
