Bode George Calls For Unity:
Former Military Governor in Ondo State, in a recent statement, has called the attention of all well-meaning Nigerians towards unification.
Olabode Ibiyinka George, known as Bode George, who has once also served as Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has dished out an elderly statement which seeks the strong bond of all Nigerian citizens.
According to the chieftain, while speaking on Tuesday, February 25th tat the 3rd Freedom Online Annual Lecture in Lagos, “issues confronting Nigeria required that all citizens work together with a common purpose.”
He further noted that tribalism, sectionalism, religious bigotry and others must be done away with in other for the country to progress at large because those were the mountains hindering our national development.
He said, “A nation is not a mere conglomeration of space and a people. It is more. A nation is about agreed destiny and collective vision; a nation is about shared values with well been cultivated ideals.”
“It is the effortless summation of a common dream, of common truth, of common objectives, and of agreed realities. A nation is the spontaneous voiding of parochial limitations. It is the deliberate eclipsing of ethnic or sectarian articulations.”
“It is to reside in a unifying universe where growth is measured by hard work and merit, where human enhancement is predicated on demonstrated rallying virtues of leadership, of the strength of character, of dedication to duty and repose in honour.
”We must work together to identify and rectify the variegated ills and the wrongs presently subsisting,” said Bode George.
According to Bode, Nigeria cannot meet its target of fulfilling their aspirations to the citizens that elected them into power with such a division, adding that it must take the bold step to ensure devolution of power to guarantee sustainable development.
