This month’s third and fourth qualifying round for the 2021 African Nations Cup in Cameroon has just been postponed because of the deadly coronavirus outbreak, organizers said on Friday.
A total of 48 matches have been scheduled to be played between Wednesday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 31.
Confederation Abdel Bah, acting secretary general of African Football, said in a statement that several factors led to the postponement.
This included many African stars based in European countries that were severely affected by the virus.
Bah said players who travel to Africa can be quarantined for several weeks, and some European clubs refuse to release African players.
Presently, new dates have not been set yet and one possibility is that the last two qualifying rounds, scheduled for 1 to 9 June and 31 August to 8 September, may change from one day to two.
