Coronavirus: Police Nabbed Masquerade In Ogun For Defying Order

Ogun State Police command reports that it has arrested a masquerade, in Ijeja area following his disobedience to the stay-at-home order by the states government.

9jatoday recalls that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State earlier issued an order to restrain movements, social gatherings in the state as a precautionary measure against the spread of Coronavirus epidemic.

According to the report which was made available to newsmen on the noon hour of Monday, March 30, the State Police Command arrested the masquerade, ‘Egungun’ as called in the Yoruba language for note obeying the government’s directive.

9jatoday learnt that the masquerade had threatened to deal with the policemen who tries to disperse his followers while parading him. The masquerade allegedly confronted and threatened to deal with the police officers who tried to send away his followers.

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi who give details on the arrest said that the masquerade was arrested Ijeja area of Abeokuta following a complaint from residents about the ‘masquerade festival’.

He said: “Upon the report, policemen from Ibara Division moved to the area and warned the people to disperse but the masquerade confronted the policemen and threatened to deal with them if they insist on dispersing his followers.

He added. “The masquerade was subsequently arrested and taken to the station where he was warned to be law-abiding before he was released to a reliable surety”.

In another news, Nigeria has discharged five coronavirus patients on Monday at the Yaba Mainland Hospital Infectious Disease Center, Lagos, under the supervision of the Lagos State Government and Lagos State Ministry of Health.
