Fire: Gov. Umahi Orders The Shuts Down Of Illegal Gas Stations In Ebonyi

Illegal Gas: Directives have been given to shut down all gas stations illegally mounted in Ebonyi State.

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umuahi, in a statement on Wednesday, gave an order that all illegal gas stations and retail outlets in the state be closed.

9jatoday in a report by Punch today understands that the Governors directive was contained in a statement signed by Mr Francis Nwaze, the Special Assistant on Media to the state Governor.

Francis made the Governors order available in Abakiliki, on Wednesday evening. He stated that the measure was taken to forestall fire outbreaks during the dry season.

The statement reads in part below;

“The move is to ensure that the state’s health safety and environmental regulations conform with national and international best oil and gas field practices.

“All gas stations must co-operate with the approval of the Abakaliki Capital Territory and Development Board and Department of Petroleum Resources on the issue.

“Defaulters of this directive will be penalised in accordance with the laws of the state and shall pay approved penalties.”

9jatoday recall that there have been increased in the number of fire outbreak in the country since last year, as a result of explosion from illegal gas stations.
