COVID-19: Okonjo-Iweala Apologises For Posting Fake Photo

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has accepted that a photo she earlier shared on Twitter account as regards Rwandan government was not true.
9jatoday understands that Iweala had earlier taken to her social media handle, Twitter precisely to share a photo which depicts how the Rwandan government is handling the distribution of palliative to its citizens.
The post, however, was countered by the Special Assistant on News Media to President Muhammadu Buhari,Bashir Ahmed, who noted that the post by the former minister is not true as she has claimed.
Iweala in her tweet had challenged other countries, as well as the Nigerian government to apply same method as used by the Rwandan government, commending the president adopting such an easy way of sharing palliative to citizens.
Bashir in his reactions said: “While it is true that the Rwandan government is giving out palliatives, the picture does not originate from the east African country but from the Gambia.”
Following Bashir’s counter, Iweala again tweeted to admit that there was an error from her report. She noted that the photo was actually sent to her from a friend who claimed it’s from Rwanda.
She tweeted: “Thanks to those who have drawn my attention to the food distribution picture I tweeted earlier today. A friend sent it to me that it’s from Rwanda.”
“Whether Gambia or Rwanda, the point I want us to focus on is that it is a safe way of handling food distribution.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the employment of one thousand people each from the 774 Local Government Areas in the country to aide in the battle against Coronavirus pandemic.
