Over 400 Inmates Awaiting Trial Get Bail In Katsina

The chief judge of Katsina State, Judge Musa Abubakar, has bailed out at least 419 prisoners awaiting trial at various state correctional centers.

This is part of the measures to reduce the number of prisoners in correctional centers, since most of them are congested.

Judge Abubakar confirmed the development on Tuesday, a week after the decongestion exercise began at the Katsina Correctional Center.

He confirmed that 29 prisoners were also released unconditionally.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Judiciary has created two mobile courts in the state capital to complement the government’s effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The two courts were set up to try violators of the lockdown order declared by the government in the local government areas of Katsina and Batagarawa.

One of the courts is located in the Kofar Kaura roundabout area, while the other is located in the Kofar Guga roundabout area, both in the state capital.

Some residents were arrested and prosecuted, but later released after the court found they were innocent of the charges brought against them.
