Early Life and Background

2Baba as he recently rebranded, bears Innocent Ujah Idibia officially and he hails from Idoma ethnic group in Benue state. Although he was born in Jos on 18th September 1975. He attended Mount Saint Gabul Secondary School in Makurdi. Later he proceeded to the Institute of Management Technology where he was studying Business Administration.

During this period, he started composing songs and performing at shows, parties, broadcasting stations, and other organizations. He later dropped out of school to concentrate on making music.

Career

Does Plantashun Boiz ring a bell? 2face Idibia’s early career in music started when he relocated to Lagos State and form a music group, Plantashun Boiz with Blackface (Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo) and Faze (Chibuzor Orji).

The trio was able to release two successful albums. The ‘Body and Soul’ and ‘Sold Out’ were released in 2000 and 2003 respectively before the group disbanded in 2004. There was a beef going on between Faze and 2face which results in them breaking up and starting their career individually. Although they later came together to drop a final album which was titled Plan B in 2007.

In 2004, after the disbandment of the group, 2face released his first album ‘Face 2 Face’ and he later went ahead to release many others including Grace 2 Grace, African Queen, and so many others. Many music lovers mostly remember 2baba for singing African Queen as the song was a hit commercially. The song which was released in 2006 was used as a Soundtrack in a foreign film titled Phat Girlz.

2face Idibia is one of the most popular and successful Afro-Pop singers. Some other genres of music he has sung include Reggae, gospel, R&B, and so on. He has also collaborated with many artists apart from Blackface and Faze.

Also, he hold a concert which was titled The FORTYfied All-Star Tribute Concert in celebration of his 40th year birthday and music influence held in the Eko Hotel and Suites Convention Centre. A lot of top musicians and celebrities performed that day. Some of them include Sound Sultan, Wizkid, Seyi Shay, Burna Boy, Vector the Viper, Timaya, D’banj, Patoranking, and Wande Coal.

Controversies

Like almost every other talented and popular musician in Nigeria, 2face has been in the news countless times, both for good and bad.

He was once involved in a gun-shot robbery in Oshodi, Lagos State which would have claimed his life. Fortunately, he survived it.

Also, 2baba was once in the news for canceling a protest he intend to lead against the Muhammadu Buhari administration due to some unfair policies made by the government. In a video released by him on his Instagram page, he stated that he had to cancel the protest due to security reasons. Although rumors circulating on the internet say he was pressured by the DSS to cancel it even though he refuted such using his Twitter page.

Another social media controversy that got the internet on freezy was the rumors of his infidelity as spread by his wife, Annie Idibia. The Nollywood actress takes to her page accusing her husband, 2face of spending time with Pero Adeniyi using the kids as an excuse.

This led to a lot of family tension and name-calling between Annie and 2face younger brother, Charles Idibia who later die down. A few days after, a video was circulated on social media where Annie Idibia is heard complaining of the musician sneaking with his load to the United States.
