ASUU: Buhari Approves Payment Of Salary

President Muhammadu Buhari has put a smile on the face members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) amid Coronavirus lockdown after he gives a directive for the payment of their two months old withheld salaries.

9jatoday is aware that the Federal Government has since January stopped the payment of salary to the Federal University lecturers for non-compliance with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) introduced.

According to the announcement contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the association be paid of their salaries with immediate effect so as to help them meet their needs and that of their dependents during this lockdown.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in a statement, signed and dated April 21st by his new media aide, Emmanuel Nzomiwu, revealed that President Buhari has directed the Minister of Finance, Budget and Planning, and the Accountant General of the Federation to effect the payment immediately.

According to him, the act is to enable the University lecturers to meet their needs and that of their dependents during this COVID-19 lockdown.

Ngige said, “Vice-Chancellors have been asked to revalidate the affected lecturers’ Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and forward to the Accountant General of the Federation for the payments,”
