Scores killed as NAF Jets Bombard Sambisa Forest

In line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent military directive to take the fight to the insurgents, Nigeria’s Air Force (NAF) fighters began a heavy bombardment of Sambisa, resulting in the death of many of Boko Haram’s fighters.

Airstrikes targeting the “S” region, in the heart of the Sambisa forest, also destroyed the terrorists’ facilities, including vehicles and motorcycles hidden under dense vegetation.

According to the statement made by the director of public relations and information, air commodore Ibikunle Daramola “the Air Task Force (ATF), Operation LAFIYA DOLE neutralized some Boko Haram terrorists (BHTs) and destroyed some of its facilities in airstrikes held on February 27, 2020, in a place known as Region “S”, in the heart of the Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

“Air strikes were carried out in the continuation of Operation RATTLE SNAKE 3, after a series of surveillance and intelligence reconnaissance (ISR) missions showing that Boko Haram Terrorists with their vehicles, motorcycles and logistics facilities camouflaged under the dense forest vegetation; intensified activities in the “S” region with the aim of launching new attacks on civilian and local troop settlements in the area.

“The ATF, therefore, detailed its fighters and helicopters to attack the site, scoring crucial blows that led to the neutralization of some BHT fighters and the destruction of some of their structures.

“The Nigeria Air Force (NAF), operating in conjunction with the land forces, will sustain its air campaign constantly so as to shape the battlespace in the Northeast for the effective conduct of other ground and air operations.”
